Dick is a painter residing in Door County, Wisconsin. Before pursuing painting, Dick
had a successful career in graphic design and art direction in the fields of
publishing and advertising. Most recently Dick served as Sr. V. P., Executive Creative Director
In a major Chicago marketing agency and worked on many national consumer accounts
He has received numerous awards nationally and internationally for his graphic design.
Dick attended the University of Iowa as an art major and the American Academy
of Art in Chicago where he studied with nationally renown watercolorist Irving Shapiro.
He has participated in many watercolor workshops studying with major artists such as
Mel Stabin, Frank Webb, Cheng-Khee-Chee, Frank Francese and Ratindra Das. He also
studied landscape painting in Italy with Maddine Isalaco and Joe Vinson.
Dick currently teaches adult watercolor classes at Positive Strokes Art School in
Palatine, IL and presents watercolor workshops and demonstrations at various
art organizations in Illinois and Wisconsin. His watercolor subjects are ever changing and range
from scenes from his travels in Italy, France and Mexico to landscapes of Door County, WI
where he maintains a second residence. His approach includes impressionistic,
representational works as well as non-representational abstracts.
Dick's work has been shown in numerous one-man shows and is included in both private
and corporate collections. He has also been included in many national watercolor museum
exhibitions and has won both regional and national awards for his painting.
He is a signature member of the TRANSPARENT WATERCOLOR SOCIETY OF AMERICA,
and an associate member of the NATIONAL WATERCOLOR SOCIETY, and a member of the
CHICAGO ARTISTS COALITION, and the ART GUILD OF PALATINE.
